Part two reconsidering

6 November 2011

RC de Scrumboks – RC Wageningen 1

Right, no funny (at least I hope funny) title, no gimmicks, no dick-of-the-day, no friggin scooby-doo this time...

On the back of 2 and a half hours in the wonderful dutch traffic, let us say that my mood was not at his highest while writing the report. I have re-read it several times and think that I was a tad over-critical against people who did not deserve it and also failed fail to acknowledge the fact that this was a fantastically entertaining game of Rugby.

So, to keep in line with the professional report type we are accustomed to, first off the team (with slightly less influence from a well/known great dane cartoon character):

  1. Rick "Mr Beautiful” Verloop
  2. Ralph "Mr Wonderful” Peloon
  3. Dennis "Mr Superb” van Gelderen
  4. Luc "Mr Brilliant” van der Voorn
  5. Andrei "Mr Dashing” Dragan
  6. Ruben "Mr Bravery” Timmerman
  7. Frank "Mr Tenacious” van Boxtel
  8. Tom "Mr Energetic” van Leeuwen
  9. Marcel "Mr Inventive” van de Brun
  10. Hans "Captain Courageous” Meeter
  11. Fabian "Mr Fast” van Straten
  12. Sam "Mr Solid” de Vries
  13. Stefan "Mr Dynamo” Opic
  14. Roberto” Mr Speed” van Sijda
  15. Mark "Mr Unexpected” van Baaren
  16. Fabio "Mr Resilient” Gomez
  17. Lennaert "Mr Fantastic” de Goede
  18. Dima "Mr Giant” ?
  19. Ivan "Mr Bruce Banner” Meeter
One slight critic here, you guys are total idiots... you kept us spectators on tenterhooks the whole of the first half. It truly was nerve wracking to see you getting so close to the try line and never getting over until Fabian and Marcel combined to make it 5-nil. One of the reasons I decided to write this is because of the picture on the front page of the website. If you look carefully in the background, you will see the smiles of relief from everyone and that, people, is what you all created. And, yes, while it may look like I am doing the Y in YMCA, it really did mean that much.

I will not write about the second half, we all knew by that first try (and before that to be honest) that the Scrumboks were going to win after that.

What I want to finish with is slightly melo-dramatic and a bit girly but, since I am french, I think we are legally obliged to be a bit gay.

Last Sunday, you played with your guts, you played for your teammates, you played with your hearts, you played with our hearts one has to say, you played with passion, you put your body on the line when it mattered, you shed blood, you showed pride.

Last Sunday, you played Rugby.
